Wadden Beauty
A Unique Encounter with Nature
The Friesian Wadden coast with its pristine nature reserves, its beautiful flora and fauna, the colours in the sky, the tides, the mud flats and the sea are almost unearthly. But so are the picturesque towns, the beautiful beaches, the vast landscape and the sunset on the mud flats. You have beautiful views at Holwerd and Wierum. Stay afterglow until dark, because nowhere are the nights so dark with bright stars as here. An experience not to be missed during your stay.
Along the Wadden coast, you can see several art projects. One of these projects is the sculpture ‘Waiting for high tide’ by Jan Ketelaar. A full and a thin woman look out over the Wadden Sea, symbolising the search for balance and exchange. The sculptures are on the New Zeedijk in Holwerd. Other special projects include the ‘Terp fan de Takomst’, a modern terp in Blije that combines art, nature and water management, and the ‘Dijktempel’, a piece of dike set on wooden stilts on the sea dyke near Marrum, emphasising the connection between land and water.
Visit one of the Wadden Islands
Our B&B is ideally located for a trip to one of the islands. So you can easily take the boat to Ameland in Holwerd. Enjoy the silence there too. Walk or cycle through the countryside. You can enjoy the distant views. Ameland has as many as 100 km of cycle paths through the woods and dunes.
But Schiermonnikoog is also easily accessible by taking the boat from Lauwersoog. This car-free island is a whopping 18 kilometres long and if you don’t have a bike to take with you, you can easily rent one there to explore the island’s beautiful flora and fauna.
